Video trade recap – 2/8/2010 – NXTH – I spent days praying for shares to borrow, but was denied!
Posted on 08. Feb, 2010 by tim.
Not actually a trade recap, but since I’m desperate to work out the bugs on my chroma key setup, and this was such an absolute beauty of a collapse I had to use it as video fodder.
Todo list:
1. Tweak chroma key settings
Part of this may be helped by switching to a darker chart, like freestockcharts.com instead of stockcharts.com, I think the stark white is messing with the camera.
2. Use my lavalier microphone, I was to lazy to hook it up today, but without it the sound is very echoey since I record in a large room with hard floors.
3. Place my feedback monitor in front as opposed to off to the side, need to get a longer cable.
4. Figure out where I am on the screen, something also was weird, the video was recorded widescreen and I was in the frame during the preview process, but something happened in the export and the display was switched to more of a 4:3 screen. Thereby cutting me out of a large portion of the video.
Please offer any other suggestions in the comments, this is obviously very much in the beta testing phase.

Watchlist 2/8/2010 – 4 Stocks… But only 1 good one. $$
Posted on 08. Feb, 2010 by tim.
Ugh, I had not gone anywhere near a stock screener since the end of day Friday, considering the last hour spike into the close I was cautiously optimistic there would be some decent tickers on my screeners, but two out of three of my favorites had ZERO stocks returned. Had I not taken 2-3 days off last week putting together watchlists I probably wouldn’t bother to today. NXTH is a beauty and will almost certainly collapse soon, probably not today but very soon, the other stocks are pure fluff just so that my watchlist didn’t contain only one ticker.
Big earnings gainer, and a real company, so there are two no no’s for me. BUT it did appear to really be fading and about to crack $7 till the last hour market spike. I came very close to shorting this on Friday, but was not prepared to go short over the weekend. Especially with the funky weird feeling buying into the close. SHORT
I have nothing to say here, that Tim Sykes hasn’t already said, so I won’t duplicate the effort. Shares to borrow of this dry up rapidly, if I was more aggressive I might start building a position anytime I can find shares. But not sure if I want to put that kind of effort into this play, since it showed it could go up for weeks on end last year. SHORT
Up on a lot of fundamental good news, and terribly illiquid, but it pulled a death drop in December for some reason, maybe setup to do it again? SHORT
VERY sketchy looking company!! There appear to be shares at IB, but either my browser is broken or their locate page is down. I can’t seem to get a quantity available result. Anyway if there ends up being a sizable amount of borrows I will watch this very closely! SHORT
Dropped from the $4.80’s to $4.50’s out of the gate, but very choppy and ugly, no real clear play.
Just kept ticking up like it is wont to do, good be a good long if you had balls of steel, but no way I would buy when I see the inevitable collapse coming.

Workout Log 2/6/10 – Burpee – 100 Rep Timed Challenge – 8min 8sec
Posted on 06. Feb, 2010 by tim.
Only 14 second improvement over last round, which ends up being 2.6% better. Not very impressed, but considering I have a moderate chest cold, I won’t beat myself up that much. I started hacking and coughing midway through hence the crappy 4th set.
Oh well, I think I’m setup to kick ass the next time around on Wednesday.

Book review: The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs: How to Be Insanely Great in Front of Any Audience – Carmine Gallo
Posted on 06. Feb, 2010 by tim.
Very cool concept! In essence this was a recap of Job’s most popular presentations and a training lesson on what Job’s consistently does right in his keynotes and presentations.
Also a lot of great business how to information and personal productivity ideas. Not only was how to deliver a great presentation covered in great detail, but also the details on how to create a workflow to create that presentation.
Unsurprisingly the key to Job’s success as a presenter boils down to relentless preparation and hard work, of course doesn’t any successful project end up boiling down to those components?
I read this as a followup to “Confessions of a Public Speaker – Scott Berkun” and as happy as I was with Berkun’s book I enjoyed this one as much or possibly even more. It made the concept of public speaking much more engaging when the case study was someone as interesting as Steve Jobs.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly!
More or less a more scientific version of “Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell”, if you are curious about how greatness is created and built, as well as looking for ideas on how to replicate achievement, I highly recommend you pick it up!

Watchlist 2/5/2010 – Finally a couple decent short setups $$
Posted on 05. Feb, 2010 by tim.
Still not much to get excited about, but since I opened the week with a list I figured I should close with one. A couple nice setups but with the market getting totally pounded yesterday we are probably set for a government induced PPT bounce day. So that could override my short picks.
Kind of embarrasing this pick was on my list Monday and its back today, but their are some forces at work here. While I admire and respect Tim Sykes there is NO way I would EVER buy this stock.. I gotta stick to my trading rules… But I will look to short when the short squeeze he mentions ends, which it inevitably will. SHORT
I watched this for weeks last fall and was never able to obtain any shares to borrow short. My goodness look at that beautiful drop in late October. Some men admire great works of art, if I had a large format printer I would print the chart from the beginning of September till the end of October and hang it on my wall, you have have your Picasso’s and Michaelangelo’s, THAT is what true beauty looks like to me!! I will try incessantly to locate shares, but it will almost assuredly be a waste time. SHORT
